As we watch the news unfold about the mysterious North Carolina robocalls, the first question on everybody's lips is "is this intentional voter supression?" The second question, not far behind, is "who is Lamont Williams?"In case you haven't heard yet, a series of misleading robocalls have been going out predominantly to African Americans in North Carolina. The person who gets the call is told to expect a registration package in the mail, to sign it, date it, and mail it back. The only problem is that the voter registration deadline has already passed, and the calls only serve to confuse the recipient as to their registration status. The calls come from a man named Lamont Williams...
I've done some quick Myspace searches and found a plethora of Lamont Williams. One of them, a 32 year old Lamont from Maryland, writes that the person he most wants to meet is Bill Clinton... does this serve as motive? Another, a guy from Texas, keeps his profile private. Why so secretive Lamont?
But my favorite Lamont, one with a clear motive and the perhaps the power to see it through, is Lamont "Action" Williams. This Lamont is a wrestler from Euclid Ohio who is, in fact, running for president. "Vote Lamont 4 President" runs his MySpace headline.
In one part of his site he sounds a little like an Obama supporter talking about "change," but he doesn't think the Illinois Senator is the man for the job.
"Pro Wrestling needs a change.... for change, we need ACTION.....Lamont "Action" Williams."
Instead of wanting to hang out with Bill Clinton like the first Lamont Williams, Lamont "Action" Williams wants to meet "A fat Leprechaun with a gold nugget and billion dollars to give me, Okay, he doesn't have to have a gold nugget." Then he thinks better of his choice. "Seriously.......I gotta meet Jesus, Stevie Wonder, The Rock, JAy Z, and Hollywood Executives." This is one of the coolest must-meet lists I've ever read. It's a celebrity lineup that only a president could hope to put together.
So could Lamont "Action" Williams have teamed up with "Women's Voices Women Vote," the reportedly pro-Clinton group that has admitted responsibility for the calls? If so, was it part of getting the word out about his candidacy? Has Lamont "Action" Williams been offered a VP slot? Regardless of his involvement, I'm going to take a good hard look at this wrestler candidate. He may have just stolen my heart, and my vote.
For those interested in learning more about this intriguing independent candidate, Lamont "Action" Williams will be appearing May 4th at the Cleveland All Pro Wrestling: May Meltdown.
